I was finally able to go back to work for a full day today. Emily's mom and Courtney took my place at Emily's side while I was away. Courtney even gave her a hair cut right here in the room. Funny thing is, Courtney is due a week before Emily but she wouldn't listen when we told her to stay home and take it easy. She is about as stubborn as they come!
Emily called me at work this morning to tell me the doctors have decided on Feb. 5th or 9th for the babies' birthday. She said five doctors stood around her bed, which made me imagine her as a patient on Grey's Anatomy. While 34 weeks isn't the best case scenario, it was always the goal to make it at least that far. Now that we have some idea of the date, it is time to start focusing on being excited for these babies. I am not sure it has quite sunk in yet, at least not for me. I try to think about what it is going to be like, but I doubt I have any idea what I am truly in for.
Emily was so pumped to take her first wheelchair ride today! She gets a half an hour a day outside of the room in a wheelchair. When we left the room with her parents, she wanted to see all of the foreign places I talk about traveling to. We had to tour the kitchen where I get coffee, look through the windows of the cafeteria, and sit in the lobby by the fireplace. She was truly amazed by the outside world :) Tomorrow a massage therapist is going to visit her for the first time. She gets one massage a week. Bed rest isn't as bad as some make it out to be. Most people would love wheelchair rides, massages, nurses waiting on call, and room service three times a day. I told her to enjoy it while it lasts because bed and rest will no longer be part of the routine once those babies are here.
My aunt and cousins stopped by tonight--it was good to see them. When I think about how tough it will be to raise these two babies, I find myself awed by the fact my aunt raised triplets. If anything, at least my family has experience with this kind of thing :)
Since I know many of you also know Darren and Megan, I thought you might also want to check out their blog and read about their little one, Dillon. Here is the link: http://darrenandmeganhughes.blogspot.com/
umm, massage therapist?? you guys can just call me, rather than cheat on me, with whoever this person is.... :)
ReplyDeleteHi Emily,
ReplyDeleteIt's DeLisa (Huber). I found your blog via a couple links from Stephanie (Hill) Jones' blog. First off congratulations on the babies. You and your husband must be super excited.
