News from room 241: Emily's first post

This is Emily. It looks like I will be here for a while, so I figure I might as well use this blog to pass the time. The doctor finally came in this morning to talk to us. The good news is my condition is mild. I have mild preeclamspia, and no it isn't from eating too many pancakes! The doctor actually said it is all Brian's fault :) As of now, we fortunately are not looking at delivering this week. The doctors are going to continue to monitor me and the little ones. If nothing changes, we will just continue the pregnancy as long as possible. Unfortunately, that means we probably have to stay in the hospital for a few weeks because they don't want me to leave until the babies are born. However, I would much rather be here for an extended stay if that means the babies don't have to spend weeks in the NICU. I am also glad they won't be leaving my belly any time soon because I will really miss feeling all of their little pokes and kicks!

The babies personalites are starting to show. Addie seems to be more like her dad. She tends to be calm and willing to work with the nurses. Aiden has really been a little stinker, probably more like me. He likes to play hide and seek with the nurses and has already earned a reputation around here. Each new nurse is warned before walking into our room that he will run and hide at the first sign of those tracing monitors (they have to trace their heartbeats). They have even talked about giving him a spankin when he comes out :)

It would be just our luck that the worst snow storm in 15 years would pass through near the end of this pregnancy, though it will make for a good story down the road. We are fortunate to have wonderful friends and family. They have been willing to brave the weather to come visit, and even drive to our house to clean and put baby stuff together. Thanks to all of you!

  4. I can't believe we will all get to meet Aiden and Addie soon. I hope Brian figured out how to put the stroller together, I know it was complicated. It won't be long till he is towing them along in it behind his bike. Kristen is hoping to see you on Monday while she is up there for class. In case you see a 5'2 curly haired blonde girl walking around lost, yell out Kristen and see if she responds. I'll talk to you soon and know you are always in our thoughts and prayers.

  6. Hey Em! I so do miss you already. Many at school have asked about you and wanted me to wish you well. Please let me know what you want to read and possible things to snack on (sweets, chips, etc) for the sunshine box. The staff wants to help you anyway we can. I hope to see you as soon as I am better! Just think you won't have to make-up our snow day!! =)
